NATIONAL BOOK AWARD
If you had had the good fortune of attending November’s Miami Book Fair, you’d have seen James McBride, this year’s National Book Award winner, play a very mean sax with the Rock Bottom Remainders….a band of authors featuring Dave Barry, Ridley Pearson, Mitch Albom and rhythm dominatrix Amy Tan.
McBride’s “The Good Lord Bird” is described as daringly irreverent, wise, funny and affecting. The New York Times called McBride a modern day Mark Twain.
FYI…The National Book Award’s nonfiction winner was George Packer’s “The Unwinding,” profiles reflecting the social and economic history of America over the past 35 years.
