Herman Koch‘s novel The Dinner has reached a milestone: it is now the most translated modern Dutch novel.
The Dinner has been a bestseller throughout Europe, and a popular choice for American book clubs. The novel skewers everything from parenting values to political convictions, and reveals the dark side of genteel society. It asks what each of us would do in the face of unimaginable tragedy.
A Dutch film adaptation is in the works and is set to premiere in the Netherlands in Novembe. Cate Blanchett will make her directorial debut with an English-language adaptation of the novel. So…have you read it? Better add it to the top of your list. .
