Carl Rollyson has just published “American Isis, The Life and Art of Sylvia Plath.” It’s the first biography to draw from archives of Plath’s husband, poet Ted Hughes. Rollyson, who’s also done biographies of Marilyn Monroe and Susan Sontag, focuses on what it meant to be a female artist in mid-20th century America. Plath faced many challenges.
