Pulitzer Prize-winning book

Two celebrities are helping turn a Pulitzer Prize-winning book into a TV documentary.

Filmmaker Ken Burns will collaborate with Siddhartha Mukherjee, author of The Emperor of All Maladies: A Biography of Cancer, for a 3-part documentary based on the book. It’s scheduled to air on PBS in spring 2015.

The project will also include an outreach program with Stand Up to Cancer, an advocacy group co-founded by Katie Couric. Burns’ mother died of cancer when he was 11. Couric’s husband died of colon cancer in ‘98 and her sister died of pancreatic cancer in 2001.

The book combined a history of cancer, patient case studies, and a review of research toward finding a cure and manageable treatments. Burns said he will weave all three threads into his documentary.
